Overview
Master of Magic: Caster of Magic is an enhanced version of the classic 4X fantasy strategy game, originally released in 1994. This iteration is a community-driven expansion, building upon the original mechanics and introducing a range of new features and quality-of-life improvements. Players assume the role of a powerful wizard, competing against other sorcerers to dominate two interconnected planes of existence: Arcanus and Myrror.
Gameplay Mechanics
- 4X Strategy: Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate form the core gameplay loop.
- Turn-Based Combat: Tactical battles unfold on a hexagonal grid, utilizing a variety of unit types and spells.
- Dual Planes: The game world is divided into Arcanus (a fertile, magic-rich realm) and Myrror (a harsh, resource-intensive mirror world), each with unique challenges and opportunities.
- Spellcasting: Over 200 spells across various schools of magic are available, ranging from offensive combat spells to global enchantments and unit summoning. Mana is a key resource for casting.
- City Management: Players establish and develop cities to produce resources, recruit units, and research new technologies and spells.
- Hero System: Recruit powerful heroes who lead armies and possess unique abilities, enhancing both combat prowess and city development.
- Unit Variety: A diverse roster of units includes traditional fantasy creatures, summoned elementals, and various racial troops, each with distinct stats and abilities.
- Wizard Customization: Players can customize their starting wizard, selecting spellbooks and special traits that influence their gameplay strategy.
