Overview:
Dome Keeper is a survival roguelike mining game. Players defend their dome from waves of alien attacks while venturing underground to extract resources. The game features a pixel-art aesthetic.
Core Gameplay Loop:
The gameplay cycle consists of two primary phases:
- Mining Phase: Players pilot their character underground using a jetpack and pickaxe to dig tunnels and extract various resources such as iron, water, and exotic minerals. These resources are crucial for upgrading the dome and its defenses. The depth and layout of the mine are procedurally generated for each run.
- Defense Phase: When a wave of alien creatures attacks the surface dome, players must return to defend it. The dome is equipped with a primary weapon that can be aimed and fired manually. Success in defense relies on previously made upgrades and strategic resource allocation.

- Procedural Generation: Each run features a unique subterranean map, influencing resource availability and digging strategies.
- Resource Management: Players manage various resource types, each essential for different upgrades. Iron often fuels basic upgrades, while water is frequently used for dome abilities or specific tech. Exotic minerals unlock advanced technologies.
- Upgrade System: Resources are spent on an extensive upgrade tree. This includes enhancing the dome's weapon power, fire rate, and area of effect, as well as increasing the character's movement speed, pickaxe efficiency, and jetpack fuel capacity. Upgrades can also add new utility tools or defense mechanisms to the dome.
- Permanent Unlocks: Progress across runs can unlock new domes, tools, or playable characters, offering varied starting conditions and strategic options for subsequent games.
- Challenges: The difficulty of alien waves scales with time, requiring continuous resource gathering and strategic upgrading to survive.
- Pixel Art: The game features a distinct pixel-art graphical style.
